Facial and body hair can be a significant source of dysphoria or discomfort for many transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people. Hair removal may be an important part of feeling more comfortable in your body, presenting in a way that feels right for you, or preparing for gender-affirming procedures.

Whether you're just beginning your transition, further along in your journey, or simply know that certain hair needs to go, you're welcome here.

Who it's for:
Transgender women and men, non-binary people, and anyone whose hair-removal goals are part of their gender-affirming journey.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis can permanently remove individual hairs at the follicle, including hairs that may not respond to laser because of their color or characteristics. Treatment can be tailored to the areas that matter most to you, whether that's facial hair, neck hair, chest, abdomen, or another area.

I understand that gender-affirming hair removal can carry emotional as well as physical significance. I aim to provide a respectful, confidential environment where you can discuss your goals without judgment.

What to expect:
We'll discuss the areas you'd like to treat, your previous hair-removal experience, and what you hope to achieve. Because hair grows in cycles, permanent removal generally requires a series of treatments rather than a single appointment. I'll explain what I'm seeing and what I recommend, so you understand the process rather than feeling like you're simply being handed a treatment schedule. We'll work at a pace that is manageable for you and adjust treatment as your needs change.


 When hormones are part of the hair-removal picture. 

 

Conditions such as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) can be associated with increased growth of coarse, dark hair in areas such as the face, chin, neck, chest, or abdomen. Hormonal changes can also affect hair growth at other stages of life.

If you've experienced PCOS or another hormonal condition, you may already know how frustrating unwanted facial or body hair can be. You remove it, it comes back. You remove it again. And sometimes there seems to be more of it than there was before.

Who it's for:
People with PMOS or other hormonal circumstances who are experiencing unwanted facial or body hair and would like a longer-term hair-removal solution.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis treats individual hair follicles directly and can permanently eliminate treated follicles. This makes it a useful option for people who are dealing with persistent or recurring unwanted hair, including hair that continues to appear despite other hair-removal methods.

Hormonal conditions can continue to influence new hair growth, so treatment may involve addressing new hairs as they become active. My approach focuses on working steadily toward your hair-removal goals 

When hormones are contributing to new hair growth, however, it's important to understand the distinction between permanently treating the hairs that are there and preventing new hairs from becoming active. Hormonal changes can mean that new hairs continue to appear over time.

That doesn't mean your treatment isn't working.

What to expect:
Progress can take time, particularly when hormones are contributing to ongoing new growth. We'll focus on consistent treatment and track progress over time. If you're experiencing a significant or sudden change in hair growth, it's also important to discuss the underlying hormonal changes with your healthcare provider.


Because sometimes the hair changes when your hormones do.


Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can change the way hair grows. Hairs that were once barely noticeable may become darker, coarser, or more persistent on the chin, upper lip, jawline, neck, or other areas where they previously had little hair.

You're not imagining it, and you're certainly not alone.

Who it's for:
People experiencing unwanted facial or body hair during perimenopause, menopause, or other hormone-related transitions.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis can target individual unwanted hairs regardless of whether they are connected to a temporary hormonal transition or have become established over time. It is also effective on hair colors that laser cannot target, when previously fine or light hairs become scattered, coarse, grey, white, blonde, or otherwise unsuitable for laser.
Electrolysis takes place within the hair follicle and does not stimulate any other follicles to produce hair.

What to expect:
Hormonal changes can mean that new hairs may continue to appear even after existing hairs have been treated. This doesn't mean your treatment isn't working—it reflects the difference between removing existing hair and addressing new growth as it becomes active.

We'll work progressively toward reducing the amount of unwanted hair and maintaining the results as your hair growth changes. The goal isn't to make you feel like you have to keep chasing every new hair forever. It's to remove the unwanted hair and make managing your hair less of a daily concern.
It means we're working with a body that is still changing.

If you're experiencing a sudden or significant change in hair growth, I also encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider about the underlying hormonal picture.


Planning ahead can make a big difference.


Some surgeries require hair to be permanently removed from a specific area before the procedure. This can be particularly important when hair follicles are located in or near tissue that will be used during surgery.

Who it's for:
People preparing for procedures that require permanent hair removal, including certain gender-affirming surgeries and other procedures where pre-operative hair removal is recommended.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis can permanently disable individual hair follicles and can be used to treat hair in precise, defined areas. This allows us to focus on the specific treatment area identified by your surgical team.

What to expect:
Surgical preparation often requires advance planning because hair grows in cycles and multiple treatments may be necessary. Ideally, treatment should begin well before your surgical date.

Your surgeon or surgical team should determine which area needs to be treated and how much hair removal is required. I can then help you develop a treatment plan around those requirements.

If you have a surgery date or deadline, let me know as early as possible so we can determine a realistic treatment schedule.


Hair color shouldn't determine whether you have options.


Hair color can make a major difference in which hair-removal methods are effective. Light, white, grey, blonde, and red hairs do not contain enough of the pigment that laser hair removal relies on to effectively target the follicle and can therefore be difficult or impossible for laser to effectively treat.

Who it's for:
Anyone with white, grey, blonde, red, or otherwise light-coloured hair who has been told that laser isn't an effective option—or who has experienced limited results from laser.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis does not depend on hair pigment in the same way laser does. It treats individual follicles directly, which means hair colour is not the limiting factor.

This can make electrolysis an especially valuable option for light-coloured hair, naturally blonde or red hair, and hairs that have become lighter after laser treatment.

Hair colour itself does not prevent the follicle from being treated.

What to expect:
Each hair is treated individually, so the process is more gradual than treating a large area with a laser. We'll prioritize the areas that are most important to you and build your results over a series of treatments.


When laser got you partway there.


Laser hair removal can significantly reduce hair growth, but it does not always remove every hair permanently. Some people are left with scattered, finer, lighter, or previously resistant hairs that they would still like to remove.

This is where electrolysis fits in.

Who it's for:
People who have completed or undergone laser hair removal and still have unwanted hair remaining.

How my methods help:
Electrolysis is an effective complementary approach for addressing individual hairs that remain after laser. It can be particularly useful when the remaining hairs are too light or fine for laser to effectively target.

Rather than continuing to treat an entire area, we can focus on the individual hairs that are still bothering you.

What to expect:
The number of treatments needed will depend on how much hair remains, its growth cycle, and the area being treated. Many people find this stage of treatment more manageable because we're working toward clearing a smaller amount of remaining hair.


 When hair removal itself has become part of the problem.


Repeated shaving, tweezing, waxing, or other forms of hair removal can contribute to ingrown hairs and irritation. For some people, recurring ingrown hairs or folliculitis can become frustrating, uncomfortable, and difficult to manage.

Who it's for:
People who experience recurring ingrown hairs, razor bumps, or irritation associated with hair removal.

How my methods help:
Reducing or permanently removing the hairs responsible for recurring irritation can help reduce the need to repeatedly shave, tweeze, or wax the area. Electrolysis allows individual hairs to be treated at the follicle rather than repeatedly removing the visible portion of the hair.

For people whose skin becomes irritated by frequent hair removal, moving toward permanent hair removal can make ongoing hair maintenance much easier.

What to expect:
We'll consider the condition of your skin and the area being treated before beginning. Treatment is generally focused on hairs that are present and suitable for treatment rather than attempting to aggressively treat irritated skin.

If you have severe, persistent, painful, or infected-looking inflammation, it's important to have the area assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional before treatment.

The goal isn't simply “remove the hair”, it's to help you get out of the cycle of constantly having to manage it.

 Yes! Electrolysis is an effective option for white, grey, blonde, and red hair because it targets the hair follicle rather than relying on pigment in the hair. Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis can treat hair regardless of its color. 


 The number of treatments varies from person to person. Hair growth patterns, the area being treated, the amount of hair, hormonal factors, and previous hair-removal methods can all affect the process.

Electrolysis works progressively, so multiple appointments are needed to treat hairs during their active growth cycles. During your consultation, we can give you a better idea of what to expect based on your individual needs.


 Everyone experiences electrolysis differently. You may feel a brief sensation as each follicle is treated, which can range from a mild warmth or tingling to a sharper sensation.

Comfort can vary depending on the treatment area, your individual sensitivity, and the type and thickness of the hair. We will work with you to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.


 It is best to avoid tweezing, waxing, threading, or other methods that remove the hair from the root while you are undergoing electrolysis.

Electrolysis needs the hair to be present in the follicle so the electrologist can properly treat it. If you need to remove visible hair between appointments, shaving or trimming is generally a better option.


 Yes! Shaving is perfectly fine between electrolysis appointments.

Unlike tweezing or waxing, shaving does not remove the hair from the follicle, so it does not 

interfere with the electrolysis treatment. You can shave as needed based on your comfort and preference.


 Laser hair removal and electrolysis work differently.

Laser uses light energy to target pigment in the hair and is generally most effective when there is sufficient contrast between the hair and skin. It is not effective on white or grey hair and may have limited effectiveness on some very light-coloured hairs.

Electrolysis uses a very fine probe to treat individual hair follicles and does not depend on hair colour. It can therefore be used on white, grey, blonde, red, and darker hair.

Electrolysis is also recognized as a permanent hair-removal method when the follicle is successfully treated. For some clients, electrolysis may be used on its own, while others may choose a combination of laser and electrolysis depending on their hair and skin characteristics.


Arrive with clean skin and avoid applying heavy creams, oils, makeup, or other products to the treatment area immediately before your appointment.

Avoid tweezing, waxing, threading, or other root-removal methods before your treatment. Shaving or trimming is fine.

It is also a good idea to stay well hydrated and avoid excessive sun exposure or anything else that may leave the treatment area irritated or sensitive.

If you use any medications or skincare products that may affect your skin's sensitivity, please let your electrologist know before treatment.


 It is normal for the treated area to appear temporarily red or slightly swollen immediately after electrolysis. You may also notice small bumps around individual follicles.

These effects generally settle as the skin recovers. Aftercare instructions will be provided to help keep the area clean and comfortable while it heals.

Avoid unnecessarily touching or picking at the treated area, and follow the aftercare recommendations provided to you.


Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider, plan, and reason for treatment. Some insurance plans may provide coverage in certain circumstances, while others may not.

We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm whether electrolysis is covered under your specific plan and what documentation may be required.


The cost of electrolysis depends on the length of your appointment and the area being treated. Because everyone's treatment needs are different, we offer appointments based on the time required rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment price.

Some clients choose to use a topical numbing product to help with comfort. However, not every product is appropriate for every person or treatment area.

Please speak with your electrologist before using a numbing product so we can discuss whether it is appropriate and how it should be used. Do not apply a product to the treatment area unless you have been advised that it is suitable.


Yes. Protecting your skin from the sun is important, particularly while your skin is recovering from treatment.

However, immediately after electrolysis, the treated area may be sensitive. Follow your electrologist's specific aftercare instructions regarding when to apply sunscreen and which products are appropriate for your skin.


 It is best to minimize significant sun exposure before and after electrolysis, particularly when the treatment area is exposed.

Sun exposure can leave the skin more sensitive and may increase the likelihood of irritation or pigmentation changes. Protect treated areas from the sun and follow your electrologist's recommended aftercare instructions.
